Paul R. Leach

MIFFLINTOWN - Paul R. Leach, 59, of RR 1, Mifflintown (Arch Rock), died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 23, 1948, in Honey Grove, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Stewart R. and Nellie E. (Wileman) Leach. His companion of 37 years, Jacqueline (Yocum) Swift, whom he married on March 26, 2008, survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Carol Spigelmyer and her husband Rick, of Mifflintown; eight siblings, Herman Leach and his wife Janet, of HC 67, Mifflin, Wade Leach and his wife Carol, of McClure, Nellie Arentz and her husband Bill, of HC 67, Mifflin, Ross Leach and his wife Georgia, of East Waterford, Francis Whistler, of York, Joyce Leach, Phyllis Brubaker and her husband Ray, of McAlisterville, John Leach, of HC 67, Mifflin.

Also surviving, two grandchildren, Heather Walton and her husband Joe, Caleb Spigelmyer; two great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

One sister, Hazel Arentz, preceded him in death.

Mr. Leach was a member of the Lost Creek Trout Club, the Roaring Run Association and was one of the original members of the Tuscarora Softball Association.

Paul was a Chicago Cubs fan and an avid outdoorsman who, when his health permitted, loved to hunt, fish and whose specialty was making pancakes for everyone, while on camping trips.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received the RVN Armed Forces meritorious commendation, the Vietnam service medal, Vietnam campaign medal with device and the combat action ribbon.

Paul was employed as a concrete finisher for Gingrich Concrete Contractors, McAlisterville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc. 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with Charles Arentz officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy, where the VFW Post 7011, of Lewistown will accord full military burial honors.

Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 from the funeral home.
