Elmer J. Kirk Sr.

EAST WATERFORD — Elmer J. Kirk Sr., 76, of RR 1 East Waterford, died at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the home of his niece Alinda Breese, in York New Salem.

Born on Oct. 27, 1931, in Lack Twp., Juniata County, he was the son of the late George E. and Sylvia N. (Marshall) Kirk. His wife, Elaine Ann (Harmond) Kirk, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1967, preceded him in death on April 12, 2005.

Surviving are his children: Fritzy Cheyenne Kirk, Susie Kirk, Vanessa Kirk, Elmer Kirk Jr., Charlie “Tink” Kirk; one brother, Earl Kirk, of East Waterford; six sisters, Erma Stallman, of Shade Gap, Shirley Stitt, of Port Royal, Rhoda Seville, of Fannettsburg, Ruby Palm, of East Waterford, Delores Van Horn, of East Salem, Linda Bratton, of Mifflintown.

Two brothers, Orville G. Kirk and Raymond C. Kirk, preceded him in death.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Kirk worked as a truck driver for the Juniata County Division of Penn Dot, until his retirement.

His passion for horses showed in his membership of the PA Rangers Riding Club and his participation in trail riding. His love of the outdoors was evident in his fondness for collecting Indian arrowheads, hunting and fishing.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Dennis Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.

Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the funeral home.
