Port Royal racing rained out Saturday
By CRAIG RUTHERFORD, Sentinel correspondent, sports@lewistownsentinel.comPORT ROYAL — Rain washed out Saturday’s racing program at Port Royal Speedway.
A full field of sprints car and late models were pit-side when action was called at 6:20 p.m.
The cancellation set up the following schedule change: the Challenge at the Port race will now be made up on June 21. Fans can register to win a Fair week ticket and party pack for the pre-race festivities, which will be held prior prior to the Tuscarora 50. Drivers that attempt to compete in 410 sprint car action have a chance to win a new racing chassis.
The 25-lap feature event will pay $5,000 to win. Heat race winners receive $100 each. The first car to not qualify or drop out of the feature, depending on car count, will get a free right rear tire. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. The pro stocks and enduro cars are also part of the show.
John Garloff, Steve Ramsey and Scotty Best have teamed up with other supporters to present the show. A driver, owners and crew appreciation night will be held prior to racing. Food and drinks will be provided compliments of Dick & Nancy Aumiller.
Action will continue at Port Royal Tuesday, when the World of Outlaws late model series visits the Juniata County oval. The nation’s top late model stars will battle the Port Royal regulars in a 40-lap feature event that pays $7,000 to the winner. The 358 late models are also part of the program. Action starts at 7 p.m.
The event will be broadcast over the Internet at www.dirtvision.com. Steve Eshelman and Craig Rutherford will provide commentary.
Selinsgrove Speedway
SELINSGROVE — Etters native Pat Cannon stormed to his third win of the season at Selinsgrove Speedway in Saturday night’s 25-lap 358 sprint car main event.
After seven late model races in 2008, Blain native Jeff Smith became the first driver to repeat a late model win in the division’s 25-lap feature. The win was Smith’s second of the season and
the 30th of his career
at Selinsgrove.
Tower City’s Troy Miller scored his fourth win of the season in the 15-lap pro stock feature, while Keith Bissinger, of Orangeville, won his fifth race of the year in the 12-lap roadrunner main event.
Lincoln Speedway
ABBOTTSTOWN — Last week, Cris Eash said he was having one of the best nights of his life after winning two 410 Sprint car features on the same night at Lincoln Speedway.
Saturday night, with the All Star Circuit of Champions in town to battle the Pennsylvania Posse, Eash waited out a three-hour rain delay and then came out on top of a thriller to win the 30-lap feature event.
Eash took the lead from All Star regular Greg Wilson on lap 19 and then held on during the final 11 laps for his 41st career Lincoln victory and sixth career All Star win.
Danny Beard led all 20 laps to capture his first career thundercar feature. While Beard had a lot of action behind him, he was able to stay out front for that elusive first win. Doug Bennett finished second over Kyle Martin, Justin Mong and Sam Gallagher with Bob Bare, Larry Neiderer, Neil Smith, Kenny Slaybaugh and 22nd starting Rick Weaver completing the top 10.
Heats for the 29 thundercars were won by Jimmy Combs, Danny Beard and Sam Gallagher.
