Address Letter
MIFFLINTOWN — A portion of Juniata County residents will receive new address notification letters on June 6, according to a press release from the commissioners office.

Residents with the following zip codes will receive a mailing from the Juniata County Department of Emergency Services, which will include both the resident’s new and old addresses:

¯ Mifflin 17058

¯ Port Royal 17082

¯ Honey Grove 17035

¯ East Waterford 17021

While people can continue to use their old address for up to one year, they may begin to use the new address immediately, the press release states. The letter also provides a list of common address notification updates, including utility companies, insurance updates, voter registrar, bank accounts, drivers’ licenses and subscriptions.

When residents change their house numbers on their mailboxes, they should make sure the numbers are clearly visible, according to the press release. The letter suggests that the numbers be placed on both sides of the box.

Commission Chairman Jeffrey Zimmerman previously said the county chose to release a portion of the notification letters as a trial run.

“We’re testing the waters to see what the issues will be,” he said previously.

Commissioner Teresa O’Neal previously asked residents to be patient while the county works through any problems that may arise from the address changes.

The project, which began six years ago, also is linked to the county’s Emergency Services.

“The addressing change will support the Emergency 911 System and improve response time,” according to the press release.

A sample copy of the notification letter may be viewed on The Sentinel’s Web site at www.lewistownsentinel.com. The county also established a telephone number that residents may call regarding questions or problems about the project, at 436-7774.
