Dr. Carman J. Cannon

MIFFLINTOWN — Dr. Carman J. Cannon, 82, of Mifflintown, and formerly of Reedsville, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Lewistown Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1925, a son of the late Carmelo and Flavia (Maio) Canamucio. His wife, the former Betty Jane Hayes, preceded him in death in 1989.

He is survived by children, C. James Cannon and his wife, Debra Keefer Cannon, of Harrisburg, Jane Cannon Mort and her husband, John K. Mort, of Mifflintown, Joseph E. Cannon and his wife, Susie Kozar Cannon, of Reedsville; a brother, Joseph Canamucio and his wife, Vera Canamucio, of Drexel Hill; grandchildren, Joseph Mort, Will Mort, Michael Cannon, Katelyn Cannon, Kristi Cannon; and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa DePompeo and Josephine Clupp.

He was a graduate of Villanova University, Georgetown University School of Medicine and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

After several years of practicing general medicine, he specialized in ophthalmology and he had an office in Lewistown from 1966 until 1980. He served as a medical consultant with the U.S. Veteran’s Administration in Philadelphia, and at Selinsgrove Center until his retirement in 1988.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and oil painting.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Mifflintown. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.

There will be a viewing at St. Jude Catholic Church from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from noon until the time of services Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at St. Jude Catholic Church, P.O. Box 187, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, has care of the arrangements.
