You can help us illustrate what it is like to turn off the TV and turn on to time with your family. Even better, you can win a free, one-year membership to the YMCA for your participation.
This year’s “Turn Off Week” is scheduled from April 21 through April 26. In recognition of the event, The Sentinel, in conjunction with Communities That Care, will publish a series of related articles that week.
These daily articles, each written by a member of The Sentinel’s reporting staff, will focus on tips to help families discover healthy activities to use as an alternative to television and other electronic media.
In an effort to get the word out, the Juniata Valley YMCA also is partnering with Communities that Care to offer one lucky family who agrees to have their progress recorded throughout the week a free, one-year membership to the YMCA.
Families are encouraged to sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis via The Sentinel. In order to qualify for the free membership, the family must agree to call in comments of daily progress as well as to write a daily blog that will be published on The Sentinel’s Web site, www.lewistownsentinel.com. In addition, the family must agree to have their photos posted with the blog and in the newspaper.
Completion of the above requirements as well as a one-week cessation of TV viewing in the household is required to receive the free YMCA membership.
To sign up to participate, contact Managing Editor Heather Goodwin Henline at 248-6741, ext. 119, or e-mail hhenline@lewistownsentinel.com.
