S. Wayne Rowe

THOMPSONTOWN — S. Wayne Rowe, 84, of Thompsontown, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67 Mifflin.

Born Sept. 13, 1923, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Samuel J. Allen and Esther B. Rowe. His wife of nearly 62 years, Arlene (Martin) Rowe, whom he married on June 10, 1947, survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Douglas M. Rowe and his wife, Nina, of Doylestown, A. Waynett Dunn, of Thompsontown; an aunt, Faye Stutts, of Thompsontown; and he also leaves behind two grandchildren, Jennifer M. Dunn, Jeremy M. Dunn and his wife, Jennifer L.

Mr. Rowe graduated from Thompsontown High School.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II having attained the rank of sergeant and served with the 404th Bomber Squadron as a Flight Maintenance Gunner, stationed in Shemya, Alaska.

Wayne was a life member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Thompsontown, and the Tennis Lodge 371 F & AM in Thompsontown, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Forest 88 and A.A.S.R., Harrisburg Consistory. He also was a charter member of the J.E. Bowen Jr. AMVETS Post 122 in Thompsontown.

He retired as a cabinetmaker from Triangle Pacific in Thompsontown.

He enjoyed reading, and he was an avid Penn State Football fan, where he was a season ticket holder.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, from the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Rev. Michael Sigler officiating. Interment will follow in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Thompsontown.

A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, April 15, at the funeral home.

The family kindly asks that memorial contributions in Mr. Rowe’s memory may be made to the Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
