Christmas decorations used to adorn the living room in the McCoy House Museum are made to match the Victorian Era time period, circa 1890s - 1910. The museum, decorated by the Mifflin County Garden Club in the theme of “Christmas Days of Yesteryear,” will be open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 20.
LEWISTOWN — The smell of Christmas is in the air, and it’s not just coming from your living room Christmas tree. The aroma of fresh pine and other holiday decorations can be found inside the McCoy House Museum following the fitting theme, “Christmas Days of Yesteryear.” The museum, which has been decorated by the Mifflin County Garden Club, features nine different rooms decorated according to different time periods. The idea for this year’s theme came from Carol Boring, chair of the McCoy House Decorating Committee. Boring, a transplant from Altoona who came to the area several years ago, joined the Mifflin County Garden Club as a way to meet new people and use her creative talent. “I wanted to try to do a theme that hasn’t been done before,” Boring said of the exhibit. Museum Chairman Fran Mackneer said the committee selected each room’s time period, ranging from the colonial era through the 1960s.
