Through My Eyes

Pick up your old photos

Wed, May 28, 2008 @ 3:17PM Over the past years we have accumulated hundreds of submitted photos that the owners have never picked up. We have wedding, engagement, baby, anniversary and other types of photos coming out our ears! So in an attempt to organize our submitted photos from this point on, I am putting all of the OLD photos in a box and sitting them in our conference room for people to sort through and take what belongs to them. All of the photos submitted from now and in the future will be sorted by event such as weddings and will be kept on file for the rest of the year. At the end of the year, if the photos are not picked up we will again sit them in a box for pick up. We have many photos I am sure are that many families would like to have back to enjoy. If you are interested in looking through the photos, you may come in from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 2 to June 13 or by appointment. Call Deb Vaughn to make an appointment at 717-248-6741.

My dinner with Andre the Giant

Wed, June 11, 2008 @ 2:23PM Dining with the Bears — or at least, a few of the folks in charge of the zoo — was great, and not just from the sports angle (see the column I wrote for more on that aspect). Joining us at the table were many of the good friends we've made through hockey — including a couple of Capitals fans from Virginia (Washington is Hershey's parent club), the couple who sit behind us and a new friend who will be in an adjacent seat starting in the fall. If there was a sad note, it was that our friend from Siglerville could not be present. Among all the fun, there was a poignant moment not to be lost. My wife, a scrapbook person, has an album marking the moments of the past three seasons that our son Christopher has been part of the game (the first one as a somewhat dispassionate observer, before he was born). She was showing it to this person and that, and then, much to her surprise, the book was handed to Bears general manager Doug Yingst.

Spice up your life

Thu, May 1, 2008 @ 11:28AM A couple weeks ago I wrote about the interesting herb kitchen display at the Philadelphia Flower Show and included an unusual recipe for Lavender Cookies. Not mentioned at that time were spices, which go hand-in-hand with herbs. In addition, spices are said to be rich in antioxidants, the latest essential element for good health. So, for the sake of equal opportunity, and to share information I recently received from McCormick, here are some ideas for spicing up your life. Cinnamon — Next time you make french toast, pancakes, waffles or muffins, try adding 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon to the batter. Ginger —Quench your thirst with Ginger Lemonade. Add 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger to 1 quart freshly squeezed lemonade or lemonade from a mix. Oregano —For a twist on the typical grilled cheese, prepare the sandwich with sliced mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes and 1/4 teaspoon oregano leaves.

TV Turn-Off week 7th day

Sun, April 27, 2008 @ 8:34PM TV Turn off week has been much easier than expected this week for both the kids and I. We had went through seven full days and nights without TV, computer and video games and computer games. We kept busy with outdoor activities. The weather was so perfect for the entire week. The kids didnt miss TV as much as I thought they would. They all said it was a fun week. I enjoyed it also. This is what we did for the 7th day without electronics. My daughter Dana had gotten me out of bed at 1am with ear pain, I gave her Tylenol and she slept with me the rest of the night. We got up in the morning and got an appointment for the Doctors and went to find out she had terrible ear infections in both ears. We then went to walmart for medication. She got some lunch and medication in her and was ready to go to kid connection. Mike had met us at kid connection. We had fun and the boys were down there all day. I dropped them off before going to the Doctors. They had a good time also.
