Beginnings

July 25, 2008 - Bethany Fehlinger and Marjorie Stromberg
***Life, love and furniture is a blog about two 20-something Lewistown newcomers who will explore what it is like to leave home and college, and begin a new life in a different town that has a church on every block, tons of antique and thrift shops, and a horse and buggy or two on the same roads on which the women travel.***

I'm Bethany Fehlinger, Sentinel city editor. I take the late shift, collaborating with other Sentinel editors until the wee hours of the morning to create the product you see almost every day (I do need a day or two off to recuperate and sleep.)
I originally am from Wilkes-Barre, where I was interested in theatre, music, cheerleading, poetry and writing. I fell in love with the beach and traveled to Delaware and Maryland as often as I could. My bedroom at home is an island oasis, with bright blue walls, wicker furniture and many beachy decorations.
When I ventured away from the comfort of home to study at Penn State University, I concentrated on journalism. I was a reporter and editor at The Daily Collegian, the student-run newspaper at Penn State. As a typical college student, clothes were on the floor, and there never was a theme to anything in my life, other than the reporter's notepad stuck to my hand and the occasional Starbucks coffee cup. There was a time I left the journalism world behind to take on an alter-ego in Italy, but that was short lived as my passion called me back to a land where the First Amendment is fought for with ink and blood.
Now, life is more simple but just as messy. After graduation, I did not move too far from State College in distance, but this new town seems (or seemed) like a whole different world. For the first time, I have my own apartment, all to myself, which I need to decorate. With a low budget and minimal space, my designs have to be simple yet classic.
In the upcoming weeks and months, my design partner-in-crime, Sentinel Reporter Marjorie Stromberg, and I will guide our readers through many different events in our lives, such as finding and assembling furniture, trying to find hidden treasures in Mifflin and Juniata counties without getting lost and developing a new life fresh out of college.
We will trot into new territory as we piece together our apartments and discover the new area we now call home.
