Searching for CU
Tue, April 29, 2008 @ 3:31PM
Recently, The Sentinel, has updated it’s web site. Due to the change, readers have had some trouble locating the CU link on the home page. At the very top of the page you will see the CU banner and you can click on that and will take you to the CU home page or you can scroll down until you see the CU link below the words ‘Subscribe Now’ and click on that CU link. Once you are on the CU site, you can do a search for photos that the Sentinel uploads. Go to WE CU and then on the right side you will see the words ‘Quick Search.’ Beside that you will see ‘Adv Search’ as another option. Click on ‘Adv Search’ and you will then see the option to search by gallery name or by category. For example, you might be looking for all the sports photos from your school such as LAHS. Type in LAHS in the gallery name line and then go to category and scroll down until you see Lewistown Area High School under high school athletics and hit search.

Beese-ball

No, it’s not a slur, or a takeoff on the old Saturday Night routine by Garrett Morris, who insisted the sport was “berry, berry good” to him. Actually, that’s how our son Christopher pronounces the name of America’s pastime, something he’s seen twice in less than a month, which matches the number of games we took him to in the first two seasons he was on our roster. He’s been to Aberdeen, Md., and to State College, two of the premier facilities in the New York-Penn League. This spring, it was Harrisburg, courtesy of the hockey kids club in Hershey, and before that, a few innings at The Diamond in Richmond, where the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves are playing their final season. For a 2-year-old whose seen roughly 100 hockey games, it’s a tough sport to watch — about as exciting as watching paint dry, some would say.

Spice up your life
Thu, May 1, 2008 @ 11:28AM
A couple weeks ago I wrote about the interesting herb kitchen display at the Philadelphia Flower Show and included an unusual recipe for Lavender Cookies. Not mentioned at that time were spices, which go hand-in-hand with herbs. In addition, spices are said to be rich in antioxidants, the latest essential element for good health. So, for the sake of equal opportunity, and to share information I recently received from McCormick, here are some ideas for spicing up your life. Cinnamon — Next time you make french toast, pancakes, waffles or muffins, try adding 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon to the batter. Ginger —Quench your thirst with Ginger Lemonade. Add 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger to 1 quart freshly squeezed lemonade or lemonade from a mix. Oregano —For a twist on the typical grilled cheese, prepare the sandwich with sliced mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes and 1/4 teaspoon oregano leaves.

TV Turn-Off week 7th day
Sun, April 27, 2008 @ 8:34PM
TV Turn off week has been much easier than expected this week for both the kids and I. We had went through seven full days and nights without TV, computer and video games and computer games. We kept busy with outdoor activities. The weather was so perfect for the entire week. The kids didnt miss TV as much as I thought they would. They all said it was a fun week. I enjoyed it also. This is what we did for the 7th day without electronics. My daughter Dana had gotten me out of bed at 1am with ear pain, I gave her Tylenol and she slept with me the rest of the night. We got up in the morning and got an appointment for the Doctors and went to find out she had terrible ear infections in both ears. We then went to walmart for medication. She got some lunch and medication in her and was ready to go to kid connection. Mike had met us at kid connection. We had fun and the boys were down there all day. I dropped them off before going to the Doctors. They had a good time also.
